At Pinon Health Center , Indian Health Service (IHS) , & Prairie Band Health Services, you’ll provide vital ultrasound services to a rural and culturally rich population in the heart of the Navajo Nation.   Assignment Details:

  • Long-term contract up to 1 year with extension opportunities
  • Outpatient Clinic
  • 40 hours per week | 8-hour shifts | Monday - Friday
  • Clinic Hours 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Minimal call may be required
  • Clinic is closed on federal holidays
  • Benefits, Paid Holidays off, and PTO offered
  • Previous traveler and IHS experience a plus
  • Starting August/September, pending credentialing and background clearance

Job Duties & Core Skills:

Perform a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures including abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, breast, and small parts imaging. Assist physicians with ultrasound-guided procedures such as biopsies, paracentesis, and thoracentesis, while maintaining sterile technique and strict infection control practices. Accurately document exams in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and maintain logs per department standards. Explain procedures, position and transfer patients, and operate imaging equipment with confidence and care. Maintain appropriate patient shielding and ensure radiation safety protocols are followed. Be prepared to respond to emergencies with BLS/CPR, as needed. Work collaboratively with physicians and staff to prioritize urgent imaging needs. Flexibility is essential—must be able to rotate between departments or locations within the Chinle Service Unit and adapt to increased patient volume or call-back needs. Cultural awareness, professionalism, and compassion are key in delivering care to a predominantly Navajo population. Physical demands include lifting and positioning patients, standing for extended periods, and working in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Requirements

Must be registered or registry-eligible with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) , ARDMS 

  • 2 years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist
  • Must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Must have current BLS, ACLS
  • Certification of Education - copy of diploma or transcripts
  • Must be a US Citizen living primarily in the United States
  • Able to pass background check, immunization screening, and complete onboarding tasks promptly 

Technical Knowledge : In-depth understanding of radiation protection standards and safe operating procedures. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology to perform and evaluate diagnostic imaging. Familiarity with x-ray physics, including circuitry, exposure techniques, and imaging accessories (e.g., grids, filters, collimators).  Clinical Skills : Ability to position patients with care and precision, even in emergency or trauma situations. Basic nursing skills, including vital sign monitoring, CPR, and familiarity with emergency protocols.  Physical Demands : Must be able to lift and position patients, carry equipment and supplies, and work long hours, including rotating shifts.  Work Environment : Must follow strict radiation safety protocols and work effectively in a clinical, fast-paced, and occasionally high-stress environment.
