Position Overview: Reporting to the Director of Design, the Exhibition Designer is a key team member providing design-based solutions for world-class exhibition projects and spatial display enhancements at varying scales. These exhibition projects will focus primarily on art-based interpretive and experiential outcomes. Experience in all phases of the exhibition design process is preferred with a concentration on architectural based results. This position is a one-year term. Essential Functions: Design special exhibitions and gallery installations through all phases of a project, and under tight deadlines On assigned projects, act as a 3D design representative within the project team Work closely with and integrate (but not limited to) the contributions of curatorial, graphic design, interpretation, conservation and media. Create detailed drawings that include schematics, layouts, finished designs, and construction drawings in both 2D and 3D formats Provide regular updates to Project Manager and Design Director on projects progress, including resource request Secondary Functions: Familiarity and strong interest in Art History Willing to travel and research spatial designs in other museums as well as suitably related architectural spaces Qualification Requirements and Characteristics Bachelor's degree or higher required in design related field such as architecture, industrial design, interior design or fine art. Proven capabilities to develop creative, innovative, and aesthetically sophisticated solutions to complex design problems. Must be process driven, demonstrate strong visual design skills, possess a careful attention to detail, appreciate art in all its many forms and have a solid understanding of user-centered design principles. Must be creative, innovative designer with excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills Experience in CAD-based design solutions, preferably with Vectorworks and mixed physical-digital environmental design. Experience and familiarity with implementing ADA related design practices and requirements Background in exhibition, architecture, theatrical design, or industrial design. Must be adept at being part of a highly collaborative team, maintaining tight timeframes, and working constructively with a wide array of stakeholders A commitment to support the Museums values of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) Salary and Schedule: Salary: $55,552 - $65,000 Full-Time, 35 hours per week One-year term This position is affiliated with the United Auto Workers Union.
