As a Post-doctoral Fellow in Ground Deformation Recorded by Geodetic Techniques, you will analyze multi-decadal geodetic data such as InSAR and GNSS to study ground deformation phenomena. The Structures and Geohazards research group at FM is seeking a creative, self-motivated postdoc eager to expand their research experience beyond academia. Ideal candidates will have expertise in geodetic data analysis and interpretation. This role offers the opportunity to perform publishable work as part of a strategic research program focused on solving real-world science and engineering problems with immediate impact. The selected candidate will work under the guidance of a senior research staff. This position is for a limited term of up to three years, renewable annually, and will be based at our FM Office in Norwood, MA, USA.

Responsibilities:

˗Analyze multi-decadal geodetic data documenting ground deformation (e.g., InSAR and GNSS).

˗Create visualization tools and implement statistical analyses to derive value from these data.

˗Develop predictive (machine learning) models to enable global monitoring of ground deformation.

  • PhD in Earth Sciences, Geophysics, or a related quantitative field with solid research record, including publications.
  • Solid knowledge of the fundamentals of space geodesy.
  • Process-level understanding of the mechanisms causing ground deformation, including land subsidence.
  • Demonstrated expertise with remote sensing data, including InSAR and GNSS data processing and interpretation.
  • Experience developing statistical analyses and machine learning models.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, MATLAB, Java) and in using GIS software (ArcGIS or QGIS).
  • Experience in high-performance computing or cloud computing for big data.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills; ability to communicate highly technical and scientific insights to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, think creatively, and interact within a team.

This position is for a limited term of up to three years, renewable each year. This position will be based out of our FM Office located in Norwood MA, USA. The role is typically focused on performing publishable work as part of a strategic research program under the guidance of a program manager or other senior research staff member(s).

The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
