Senior College Academic Advisor (IRC33621) Location: New Orleans, LA Summary In addition to the standard responsibilities of a College Academic Advisor, the Senior College Academic Advisor mentors and supports the College Academic Advisors in creating holistic student relationships and proactively engages with leadership on programming and processes that support student and advisor success. This position models and shares best practices for academic advising across campus as college liaisons, committee members, and advising community builders. The Senior College Academic Advisor excels at providing meaningful, holistic student support and academic guidance. Primary responsibilities include assisting students in developing plans for academic degree completion, setting academic goals, and navigating the academic environment and requirements, including academic exploration within the undergraduate college and its five schools. This position collaborates with students, colleagues, and campus partners to address challenges, offer solutions, and ensure students successfully progress through their chosen academic programs within Newcomb‑Tulane College. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency in navigating, teaching, and communicating complex academic policies. Skills in interpersonal written and verbal communication. Ability to communicate complex information to individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to share effective communication strategies with colleagues. Effective time management skills in a high‑demand work environment. Ability to learn, utilize, and teach specific software necessary for academic advising work. Ability to work evenings and weekends during special events, as needed. Ability to implement student development practices. Ability to motivate and inspire students, staff, and campus partners. Required Education and/or Experience Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field. 2 years of experience as an academic advisor in a higher education setting. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or a related discipline. 3 years of experience as an academic advisor in a higher education setting. Compensation Information This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 25.
