Join Our Team as a Software Engineer – Mainframe- Assembler | Life Accounting at State Farm
Are you passionate about mainframe technology and eager to make a real impact? Enterprise Technology (ET) is seeking a talented Software Engineer – Mainframe-Assembler to join our innovative Life Accounting product team. This is your chance to play a vital role in supporting and enhancing solutions that power over 8 million life insurance policies across State Farm.
What You’ll Do:
As a key member of our agile team, you’ll collaborate closely with business partners to design, develop, test, and implement cutting-edge solutions that drive the core operations of State Farm’s Life company. Your work will directly influence the processing of accounting transactions, income tax, and premium tax reporting at both state and federal levels—ensuring accuracy and compliance for millions of policyholders.
Your expertise will be essential in maintaining and evolving Life Legacy Systems, which are primarily built using Assembler and COBOL. Your skills will help power critical data processing necessary for regulatory filings and servicing transactions for insured customers and policy owners.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

Competitive candidates will have a minimum of 5+ years of business experience, including at least 3 recent years with the following:
Assembler (within past 3 years), a must have
Cobol (within past 3 years), a must have
JCL (within past 3 years), a must have
• DB2
• SAS
• Experience or exposure working with Debugging tool like IBM Developer for z/OS® (IDz)
• Experience or exposure working with GITLAB, managing repositories, push/pull/merge code requests.
• Knowledge of CI/CD practices and version controls
• Proficiency with version control systems like Git

Preferred Tech Skills :
• CICS
• AWS/Cloud Computing

There is not active work in the AWS space at this time; however, the team will quickly be moving in that direction as we evaluate Cloud Solutions for our Legacy data.

Need the ability to manage multiple work assignments and contribute the continued and ongoing maintenance of statefarm.com.

Our Benefits

Because work-life-balance is a priority at State Farm, compensation is based on our standard 38:45-hour work week!

  • Potential starting salary range: $105,500 - $148,000
    • Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience
    • High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience
  • Potential yearly incentive pay up to 15% of base salary

Work Arrangement:
HYBRID: Qualified candidates (in or near hub locations listed below) should plan to spend time working from home and some time working in the office as part of our hybrid work environment. Work arrangements could change over time based on business need. Hybrid work arrangement for Enterprise Technology is defined as residing within a 180-mile radius of the Hubs and Corporate.
